Too Much Of A Risk For West Ham?

Wilfried BonyWest Ham co-owner David Sullivan sent West Ham fans into a frenzy when he told the media that the east end club were set to smash their transfer record buy with a top European striker.

It has since been revealed that the striker is Ivory Coast hit man Wilfried Bony, who has smashed 26 goals for Vitesse Arnhem this season.

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

The striker dubbed the next Didier Drogba is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League and is the 3rd top goal scorer in world football behind Messi and Ronaldo this season.

So where is the risk?

1.  At the reported £15 million fee the Hammers are spending a hell of a lot of money on an unproven striker. The Dutch League sent Alfonso Alves to the Premier League who flopped massively at Middlesbrough. Any striker who bags 26 goals in 24 games is a talent and his finishing skills are second to none. Should the Hammers beat the competition, West ham fans will hope that he is more of a Luis Suarez than an Alfonso Alves when he lines up in claret and blue.

2. West Ham currently lie in 14th in the Premier League table and are just 6 points clear of the relegation zone with still Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United still to play. Although I believe we will survive there are no guarantees in football and agreeing a pre contractual agreement with a top player is always a risk when you are still in danger.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

3. The manager situation at West Ham is a constant debate, with the Hammers faithful still not sold on the idea of Sam Allardyce, the debate of is this a Big Sam or a David Sullivan signing with ramble on. Allardyce is yet to sign a new deal at the Boleyn Ground and with the club spouting on a about new signings you have to question just who are making the signings at West Ham these days.

The real question for me is why David Sullivan opened his trap in the first place regarding this transfer. Surely by saying Bony is available it is only going to start a ripple effect of bids from more affable and attractive clubs. I firmly believe that business should remain quiet until a deal is done and signed. But that is not the way we deal at West Ham United unfortunately.

I will be the first to hold my hands up should SuGo pull this off as it would be a major statement following the sealing of the Olympic Stadium, but I guess it’s just a case of wait and see.

The futures bright the future is Claret and Blue!

Generally your points are sound and valid concerns however… correct me if i’m wrong but was there any confirmation that DS was referring strictly to Bony when he made that statement?…or was it just press speculation that you decided to base your piece on??

I for one can understand his blurting out that statement during what must have been an exciting day for them and us alike and sometimes you just can’t contain yourself but, while that player might be Bony this might also be a smokescreen for someone else. As you say though…wait and see.

    Agreed.

Besides, judging by the YouTube vids the finishing isn’t in Ashton’s class, and the league standard looked poor. £13m is Steep if it is Bony.

Better scoring record then Suarez and he played in the same league!!!!!
