Is Sam Allardyce Really Making These West Ham Signings?

Brian MontenegroRecently, West Ham United manager has made a few signings which have raised some supporters’ eyebrows. Most notably, Brian Montenegro and George John last season, and Wellington Paulista this season. None of them have had any opportunities within the first team, Montenegro and John were allowed to leave the club, and it looks like Wellington is going the same way.

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

So why has Big Sam signed these players? Why have they been at the club and not had any opportunities within the first team? Are they actually signings that Allardyce has sanctioned? Are the Chairmen up to their old tricks?

Montenegro was signed on a season long loan deal. He was a Costa Rican Under 21 player, and was described as a tricky winger/forward player. He made one appearance for West Ham – in the 1-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup. He made no impact in that game, didn’t play again for West Ham and was allowed to return to his parent club.

George John was a central defender, signed on loan from FC Dallas in the American Major League Soccer. He was signed in the January transfer window last season, but made no appearances at all. I thought he was cover for the centre back position which looked lightweight with only Tomkins, Reid and Faye as recognised centre halves.

We have all been waiting to see ‘Welly’ make his first team debut after joining the club from Cruizeiro in Brazil. He came with a good goalscoring pedigree, however, he hasn’t even made the bench for West Ham just yet. Having seen him first hand for the Development Squad a few weeks back, he didn’t look particularly good, but maybe I caught him on a bad night. He has scored goals for the Dev Squad, but with all due respect, he is playing against a bunch of kids.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

So why were these players signed in the first place? Was it so Allardyce could have a closer look at them on a day to day basis to see if they were good enough for a permanent move? Or have they been signed by the Chairmen, on the basis that they like them and want Big Sam to use them as he wishes? Did Allardyce actually want them at all? The rumour is that Allardyce doesn’t actually fancy Wellington as a player – he looks overweight, not very sharp and had a poor touch. He also does not suit the style of play we play each week.

It’s a strange scenario if the Chairmen are signing players without Big Sam’s authority and I can see Wellington going the same way as Montenegro and John, and that’s back across the Atlantic to their home countries!

  • Just read a blog on news now (WHU page) It seems that spurs are getting scared of our new stadium its a site called topspurs.com. Have a read and a good laugh about how he supports orients bib for the OS how Spurs are a massive side with great support LOL and how we cant compete with them in size fanbase or anything. He must have missed the game a couple of weeks ago. What an idiot he cant see the evidence before his eyes the spuds are a one man team no Bale Spurs lose.

This is a good article & I think something dodgy is going on here. It would be interesting to find out who these three players’ agents are and what possible relations they have with Big Sam’s agent. It could be a case of trying to increase the perceived value of these guys by being able to say that they were on trial at an EPL club.

I personally feel its to build bridges with the South American clubs for future signings that we actually want. The way that the David’s both work, one thing is for sure – the finer details have more too it than you think.

Not sure about the signings made as we have not seen them in the senior team. But I agree with sibbo ‘GET RID OF SAM!’
It’s one dimentional rubbish football. Like watching Wimbledon of old. Sam has said on many occations he does not play long ball! But to quote Jim Royal ‘MY ASS!’
Bring back Harry for the move into the Olympic Stadium. COYI
