A Few Observations From West Ham Vs Tottenham Hotspur

|

West Ham midfielderFirstly West Ham competed well with a team who whether we like it or not are a permanent fixture of the upper echelons of the Premier League. We lost the game to a wonder goal from a world class player, other than that there was very little to choose between the two sides; a good sign when you consider that last season whilst we spent the majority of the season third in the Championship, Tottenham Hotspur spent the majority of the season third in the prem.

Secondly the squad is lacking quality; this was made abundantly clear when Mark Noble was ruled out and he was replaced by Gary O ‘Neil…is he a Premier League player? Really? The same goes for Matt Taylor who replaced Kevin Nolan. Our inability to replace quality with quality definitely handicapped us on Monday night; would a better play than Taylor have buried that one on one with Hugo Lloris at 2-1? Would a better play than O’Neil have closed down Bale before he unleashed his worldy winner?

Thirdly despite the poor result and poor form of late, we’re still 6 points clear of the drop zone with 11 games to go. Think it’s safe to say we would’ve taken this at the start of the season. The sole aim of this campaign was always to survive and we’re still on course to do just that. If we can indeed retain our Premier League status we can move on the Championship players still within our squad i.e. Ricardo Vaz Te, Matty Taylor, Gary O’Neil etc replace them with better quality players and grow incrementally.

One of the major reasons we’re so far behind Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea is that whilst they’re Premier League ever presents, we’ve dipped in and out, lost our best players and had to rebuild. If we can make relegation a thing of the past we can over time close the gap in the London pecking order.

Very little between the sides? Hahaha

You were dependent on a non penalty from a sad little ref who has made it his life’s mission to cheat Tottenham at every turn

Really – perhaps you ought to go to Specsavers as even Gary Neville said it was a deffo penalty. The sad little ref should also have sent Dembele off at least 3 times but bottled it. If anything it was West Ham that were cheated.

Really “little to choose”?. Check out the stats. – and maybe watch the game again. Count the number of shots on target. Jussi was going to be man of the match (and probably should still be). That tells you a lot. Check out the stats from http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/280461/stats – and you will realise that on another day this would have been a lot worse.

Whilst I would never question the integrity of a ref, as my fellow fan above has. It must be pointed out that dispite “Big Sam’s” assertion that West Ham were beaten by Bale, it was in fact West Hams GK who kept you in that match. He was the best West Ham player on the pitch by millions of miles! He still conceded 3 but it easily could have be 5 or 6 without a string of fantastic saves and we hit the woodwork at least twice. Other than your goals Loris was only tested by Matt Taylor’s one on one, admittedly if he had scored it would’ve been a different game. He didn’t and Spurs got the result they deserved.

I see my lil article has been hijacked by spuds fans offering their two penneth…ta for your observations, don’t need to look at stats, you can use ’em to prove ANYTHING I watched the game on Monday from start to finish, I know there was little between the two sides, had Bale not been playing we would’ve won. Don’t need stats to tell me that.
