Have A Break Lads

West-Ham-United-3-1-ChelseaAs much as I hate to say it, and as much as I love the FA Cup, I am fairly happy to be missing out on a cup run this year, and Wednesday nights drubbing confirmed that.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

From the isolated incidents from the hour-long highlights of the game that I saw, I thought that we were fairly good in the first half. The defence was its regular shape and quite strong for that matter. Though as we know the destructive nature of some world class attacking play from Arsenal caught us out and after 57 minutes, the tie was effectively over. I feel that Wednesday night was a free game to compete in; nothing to lose, but much to gain and I felt that we did attempt to do that. The loss was compounded by the injury to Dan Potts that left us with just 10 men on the pitch for a sustained period of time.

Although, I feel that the second half of the season starts on Wednesday night. Many forget that the festive period of games, where you play a high concentration of games in a few weeks, continues into January. The exit in the F.A Cup will give West Ham United a much-needed break. If you look at last year, where the players took a week long break by going to Dubai for some time off and a team bonding trip, we only lost one game in the run in to the end of the season after that loss. As I have stated in my writing many times before, the impact of confidence and morale in Allardyce’s sides is huge, and even though the stats will say we have one win to our name in the last seven games, I believe that the morale and confidence is still quite high.

The side might be feeling quite deflated at the moment with the recent run, losing to Sunderland, a knock back in the F.A Cup, desperately trying to beat QPR at home and then the drubbing to Arsenal has resulted in the bleak run. It is in the best interests and should be the aim for West Ham United to turn a corner and press on.

Next Wednesday we face Fulham away; this London derby could be the start of a new campaign and a new start to our flagging league season. In my opinion we only need 4, maybe 5 wins to stave of any threat of relegation. The tie at Craven Cottage in just under a week’s time could be a big moment in West Ham United’s season. After this game we play Swansea the following weekend and after that is Aston Villa away. Swansea will be travelling to the Boleyn in high spirits as they look forward to a tie at Wembley over the miraculous Bradford City, though Laudrup’s side are not the best travelers in the Premier League. We could pick up a big scalp over an in form side. Then we go to Aston Villa where their recent troubles are well documented and the lack of clean sheets at Villa Park should excite the returning Andy Carroll and company.

This week allows West Ham United to prepare for these ties that could make or break our season, though with the chance of a week off after the drubbing we faced at Arsenal. I for one am slightly relived to miss out on a return to Wembley.
