Andy Carroll, the Liverpool loanee is back for West Ham tonight’s game at Craven Cottage against Fulham after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Should he start? Well, in short my answer is no.

Although Carroll does provide excellent aerial ability and a target for the set pieces, 1 goal isn’t exactly what many Hammers expected when the England international signed on loan in the summer transfer window. Having said that, he has been injured (a worrying amount really) and hasn’t had too many chances to show us everything he can contribute.
After being injured for so long, I think it would be a mistake to start with AC, he hasn’t played in a while and what we don’t want right now is any more injury troubles. With Marouane Chamakh having signed on loan from Arsenal this month, there is no real need to risk aggravating the West Ham’s number 8 injury problems. We also have Carlton Cole who has filled in well while Carroll has been sidelined and showed why SOME of us fans still love the big man.

I would personally start with Cole and Chamakh, two strikers!! Foreign territory for us fans of late, but with Kevin Nolan having played abysmally for the past few games, I see it wise to give him a break and start with some positivity about us with Carroll ready to make an impact from the bench, if needed.
However, knowing Big Sam, Nolan will start and Carroll will be in contention without a doubt. Players need to know that they’re not indispensable and that if they put in continuously poor efforts, their position is under threat.
