My favourite ever West Ham game

|

This day was meant to be our day. When Blackpool’s Matt Phillips was through on goal twice and missed I knew for sure that this was meant to be, that we would be back at the first time of asking to the Premier League.

Ever dreamt about getting paid for reading about West Ham? Well now you can make dreams a reality http://bit.ly/ffc-foreverwestham-lp

West Ham didn’t start the match well and playing a high-line and trying to play through Blackpool, this only brought long spells of possession for Blackpool and lots of chances.  Matt Phillips was twice through on goal and twice denied (in the space of 2 mins), this could have changed the course of the game.  It was moments like this that I knew this day was going to be West Ham United’s (even though it didn’t feel like it at the time!)

As the game went on West Ham’s tactics changed, long balls were more frequent, and this caused havoc among the Blackpool defence, until finally the deadlock was broken, a long ball from Matty Taylor, after riding the challenge of Angel Martinez, found Carlton Cole who watched it over his shoulder and slide it past Matthew Gilks to put the Hammers ahead.

At the beginning of the second half a wayward pass from Cole allowed Phillips to put Thomas Ince through and draw the sides’ level.

From them on Blackpool showed off their glorious passing game and as the game wore on it looked more and more like extra time would come.  The Hammers tried and tried, until finally with one last big tired push the ball fell to Ricardo Vaz te or should I say (It might fall to…VAZ TEEE) – who made no mistake slotting the ball into the top right hand corner.

The fans lifted the roof off Wembley and it was truly one of the best moments of my life to be there.

BACK WHERE WE BELONG

Agree with you. I was also one of the lucky ones to get a ticket and Blackpool squandered a few good chances and were definitely the better team on the day.

They just couldn’t slot their chances away and we could. But still for me was the 91 FA Cup quarter final against Everton when Stuart Slater one the game for us. Best atmosphere I have ever experienced that night.

I was there that day and totally gutted, the chances we missed looked so easy to score, especially the Dobbie scuff, from eight yards,we really did play some wonderful football, and but for what some may say bad luck, others, incompetence in front of goal,it would have been us going up,but realistically if you don’t take your chances, you dont deserve to win,so well done big Sam and West Ham,on the day we couldn’t handle Carleton Cole and the rest is history
PS one of the highlights of the day was the awesome sight of forty thousand plus west ham fans singing their anthem forever blowing bubbles, you did your team proud, respect to you all!!
