Casualty list shouldn’t be a problem

|

The Hammers travel to the Madejski Stadium on Saturday to take on slow starters Reading, who are early favourites for relegation. With just one win so far this term Brian McDermott’s men are finding it extremely hard to adapt to the top tier of English football, with very little Premier League experience in his side it isn’t hard to see why Reading are being touted for an instant relegation back to the Championship.

However, with an injury hit squad West Ham seem to have hit a somewhat sticky patch, with just 2 wins in 9 games some are starting to ponder the question of us in fact getting relegated. Reading’s poor start to the season makes this game important for Sam Allardyce’s men. Although the Royals will put up a fight, this is a fixture that given our recent form needs to be won.

I think that we do have enough to beat Reading, even with the casualty list including some key players. Carlton Cole’s clearance to play is a big boost; the number 9 has been in fine form since the Chelsea game and is making a case for himself to start over Andy Carroll when he returns from injury. The welcomed returned of one of my favourites Jack Collison along with French international Alou Diarra could also prove pivotal to our chance of heading home with the 3 points.

After Reading doing the double over us last season, and beating us 3-0 at the Madejski, I think it’s time for some payback and I really would love to see Jack Collison’s name on the score sheet come the final whistle. Not an easy tie as things stand, but a winnable one even with our depleted squad. Come On You Irons!
