As a West Ham fan the weekends result against Chelsea was something I will savour, but the moment I lost control was when the ball fell to Diame’s feet for the second goal.
It was the point where it could have been ecstasy or torment!!
Thank god it was ecstasy because it could have went so wrong. Diame still had so much to do, he had to stay composed, hit the ball right and make sure it was on target. He got all of these factors right when it really mattered!
For me Diame changed the game; it was calling for a player to come and take it by the scruff of the neck and that’s just what Diame did. He attacked, he defended and created chances, he scored a goal, he rattled the Chelsea midfield and this is what he has been doing all season and to think we got him on a free transfer is madness!
Diame is quickly becoming a firm fan favourite at West Ham with his no nonsense approach. His attacking ability and his commitment to the cause is evident and there is nothing a West Ham fan likes more than a player that gives 110% regardless of ability.
Diame, in my opinion, would always be the first name on my team sheet and he has made that midfield role his own and I don’t know who could take it away from him.
The worry now is that with such good performances a number of clubs are now sniffing around him, and the fact that Diame has a clause in his contract that could allow him to leave in January for around £6 million is very worrying! Talks have reportedly already begun on a new contract with Diame’s agent but Diame is said to be in no hurry to sign a new one.
I hope for West Ham’s sake that we tie the player down to a new contract and that we don’t allow him to leave. My opinion is that the player looks settled, he looks like he is enjoying his football and his time at West Ham. I hope am right and that we see out January with Diame still at the club.
At a time like this when we are playing well and looking so strong we need to keep our best players and build round them and Mohamed Diame is certainly one of our best.
