FIVE things we learnt against Stoke

|

1. It is most definitely a game of two halves! –Wow, what a bloody difference 15 minutes makes. I wish the players got a rollicking from Sam Allardyce before the game if it would make them play as well as they did in the second half! We deserved all 3 points from that second 45 minute display, but were very poor in the first half.

2. (Dare I say it) Maybe it’s time to drop Andy Carroll –Or at least put him up front with another striker! I just think his frustration is starting to really show on the pitch. He hasn’t scored for us yet, and although normally I would say stick with him to give him the chance, I think it’s time to stop just pumping up balls to him and hoping for the best. Modibo Maiga deserves a chance to be played up front, and he could make a good strike partner for Andy.

3. Mark Noble made a few dangerous errors – He made a rash challenge to get a yellow card, and I don’t think he calmed down at all. Noble’s tackle right at the end of the match also earnt Stoke City a needless free kick which could have seen the Potters leaving East London with all three points. Although Mark did make the most passes in the game (57), silly decisions may see the good stuff wiped out.

4. Carlton Cole has taken up boxing!? – This may not be news to some of you, but Martin Tyler broke it to me in his commentary on the match tonight. Yes, I was watching it on a stream as I have freeview! Little fun fact for you all there, turns out he’s a massive UFC fan.

5. Joey O’Brien can actually score! – Finally, a huge congratulations to Joey who scored his first ever Premier League goal against Stoke. I thought both him and George McCartney were superb in both defence and leading the attack up the wings, and although both face stick sometimes I think that they are proving that they can perform at the highest level.

Thought the same about Carroll and with the level of opposition coming up I worry he might not score for a while. I hope I’m wrong.

Good shout! Carroll will need a strike partner if he is to start scoring again! And yes both full backs were outstanding! Which is a bit of a relief as I think it was generally thought we were particularly weak in these areas! Also it was proved again that if west ham just lazily hoof the ball up with little thought or imagination then we will go nowhere fast! As was proven in the first hall against stoke. But if we mix it up play with pace courage and quickness of thought then we will be going places playing attractive west ham football! Hence the vast improvement of the second half against the potters! Who were by the were terrible! Rather be relegated than put up with that rubbish!
