On to the Lane

|

On Monday night against Stoke City we witnessed more proof of how far we’ve come under Sam Allardyce.  Missing key players in Yossi Benayoun and Matthew Jarvis, falling behind to essentially a soft goal and an overall insipid first half performance; we then came roaring back, got the equaliser and continued to pile the pressure on Tony Pulis’ boys without unfortunately finding  the winner our fight-back merited.

It’s the sort of game that under regimes of Avram Grant and Gianfranco Zola we’d have probably lost 0-2.

We now head to White Hart Lane on Sunday looking to end a 13 year hoodoo and gain our first victory on their turf since the goals of Ian Wright and Marc Keller secured a 1-2 win for us all the way back in 1999.

I can’t help but feel but this Sunday represents a wonderful opportunity to bring this hoodoo to an end. We head into the game having suffered only three defeats in our 12 league games, on the back of an impressive fight back against Stoke which although did not find the victory we so sought; showcased the hunger, determination and spirit of this side that Sam Allardyce has so skilfully assembled.

Tottenham on the other hand; have a fantastic side and are very formidable at the Lane but clearly all is not well…they head into the game on the back of successive defeats, doubts over AVB’s tactics and even his very appointment, coupled with a tricky trip to Lazio on Thursday night; leaving little time for recovery and preparation.

Sunday’s short trip across the capital in my humble opinion represents a very realistic opportunity for three points and it’s been a while since we’ve able to say that.
