Good to have him back

Yossi Benayoun made his welcome return to the starting line-up at Upton Park against Southampton on Saturday, and it was a bit of a mixed performance!

I was delighted when it was announced that Yossi would be returning to East London for the season, as have nothing but good memories of him when he was with us before. He was a pacey player who was tricky for defenders to deal with and I couldn’t wait for him to create a real attacking force with Matt Jarvis.

But when he started against Southampton in the game last Saturday, the first half display really worried me. He didn’t seem to want to get stuck in, and he wasn’t as quick as the player we’d all known and loved 5 years before.

But in the second half, that all changed. He was faster; I expect Sam Allardyce put a rocket in his shorts, he wanted to get involved and he created Kevin Nolan’s goal with his own determination. He went in for tackles and passed with class and flair. His second half performance was bloody brilliant, but the first half made me wonder whether he should walk into the starting line-up. I think that while Ricardo Vaz Te is out Benayoun will be a solid replacement in the starting line-up, but that first half against Saints has worried me. Hopefully as he gets more Hammers appearances under his belt he’ll settle into the team and play a full 90 minutes as the player we saw from 4pm on Saturday. What did everyone else think of his performance? Should he stay in the starting line-up? Leave me a comment or tweet me at @alwaysintune to let me know.

Very Harsh, poor bloke hasnt had a full game in a month. He is slightly off the boil for 45 minutes and your doubting him? The whole TEAM was poo in the first half. Form is temporary, class is permanent — Yossi had and will come good.

Give him a break the poor fella aint really played much football for the last 2 years but I did hear it took him a little time to get going for arsenal last year and they didn’t wanna let him go the fans any way he was different class hopefully he can bring that to us he gives us another dimension very good vision and eye for a pass and can chip in with a goal or 2
