JT to start against QPR?

|

Tonight sees West Ham travel west across London to Loftus Road for an evening kick off against Mark Hughes’ Queens Park Rangers.

For the first time in a long while we have a settled team however although Winston Reid has been drawing plaudits for his resurgence in the centre back berth his partner in defence James Collins has been subject to murmurs about his ability to fulfil the role in the long term.

Many doubters were silenced after Collins’ second debut against Aston Villa however subsequent matches have seen indifferent displays where his error prone approach to defending has been evident. His detractors are calling for last season’s centre back pairing of Winston Reid and James Tomkins to be reunited but can this Kiwi/Basildon combination be relied upon?

Unfortunately for the time being I would say no having witnessed James Tomkins part in our capitulation on Tuesday. He looked short of both match fitness and confidence. Perhaps his exploits and bad performances at the Olympics have affected him or perhaps rumours of a bust with Sam Allardyce are true or perhaps it’s the lack of game time for him this season.

But I’d say that for the time being the current centre back pairing should remain. That is until James Collins has an absolute shocker.
