Could this be our signing of the season?

|

It looks almost like a done deal now, Mohamed Diame will almost definitely be donning the claret and blue of West Ham United next year. Diame, a Senegal international, is a strong, defensive midfielder who likes to distribute to the more creative players but still has a decent shot on him (see his goal against Chelsea).

The twenty five year old is available on a free following the end of his contract and West Ham have reportedly offered him a deal worth £40,000 a week. He may have been dropped towards the end of the season to suit Wigan Athletic’s new 3-4-3 formation, but Diame has all the qualities to become a top Premier League player at any club.

Two positions were obviously lacking for West Ham last year: a true right winger, and a holding midfielder player. While Diame isn’t your classic sit in the middle and keep the ball kind of midfielder due to his frequent runs into the opposite half, Diame is excellent at breaking up opposition attacks and starting a counter attack, a tactic likely to be frequently employed by West Ham next year.

With Jack Collison in and out of the starting line up last year, it is possible that Sam Allardyce could set up West Ham in a 4-3-3 formation. The middle three, probably the most important positions on the pitch in this formation, could line up as Diame being used as a holding midfielder, Mark Noble slightly ahead of him to carry the ball forward, and Kevin Nolan further ahead of Noble to distribute the ball into the box.

Diame’s role is critical in making sure the defensive line aren’t left being out numbered when facing an attack. His attributes are often overlooked due to the fact he has only plied his trade at Wigan in the Premier League, but Diame is a player who can turn defence into attack just as easily as he can protect the back four when the opposition have the ball deep into his team’s half.

was only sub for us because of african nations, injuries and making it plain that he wasnt signing a new contract. he is a class player.

He was the only player I was sad to see leave this year. That said I wouldn’t expect much by way of loyalty. Bearing in mind he left Wigan in search of European football, unless you have an exceptional season you will have him angling for another move.

He’s a good signing and all the best to him because he always gave his all in a blue shirt.

Diame is an incredible player. If we pull this off then it will be the best signing we’ve made in years. I couldn’t think of any other player that plays in his position (that we could realistically get) that I would rather have. Lets hope this one comes off! COYI

He won’t win you the World Cups your used to, he has a dicky heart condition or to be fair to him he’d have probably got a move to a decent side.

    Slight over statement Reece

I agree, Diae offers something in midfield our other players don’t offer, so will be an impotant player in certain games.Hopefully he recognises the value of playing for BFS at a club like West Ham ver sitting on the bench atsomewhere like Chelsea….?
    Just need Zaha now…..
