Top FIVE transfer targets

|

1. Paul Robinson

This is a signing that no one wants West Ham to have to be forced into, but with the future of Robert Green unclear over contract issues, Robinson could be available at a discount price following Blackburn’s relegation. At 32 years of age, the former England goalkeeper is the same age as Green and has accumulated fourteen years of Premier League experience behind him. Should Green leave, Robinson could slot into the number one jersey comfortably.

2. Scott Dann

Another Blackburn player likely to be available is Scott Dann who following Birmingham’s relegation in 2011 suffered the same fate with Blackburn in 2012. The centre back in the past has been linked to Arsenal and Liverpool and offers a large physical presence at the back. At only 25 years old, his best years are ahead of him and with Abdoulaye Faye now departed and Winston Reid unsteady at best in the Premier League, Dann could offer reassurance in defence.

3. Joey Barton

If you believe certain betting companies, West Ham are as low as 4/1 to sign Barton from QPR following his acrimonious end of season sending off against Manchester City. With his future unclear, Big Sam may want to sign him once more after he convinced him to leave City for Newcastle United in 2007. Whatever you think about Barton on a personal level, his playing

ability has led him being capped for England, albeit the solitary cap, and is a leader on the pitch.

4. Michael Owen

Having played under Sam Allardyce previously in his time at Newcastle, Owen could prove to be a shrewd signing following his release from Manchester United. Whilst Owen didn’t exactly thrive in his time in Manchester, he is likely to receive infinitely more playing time, providing he can stay fit, at West Ham. A partnership with Carlton Cole up front could prove to be an effective duo if we change our system to two up top.

5. Yakubu

Once again dipping into the Blackburn bargain bucket, Yakubu could prove to be a purposeful signing should other targets in attack become unavailable. Having scored 17 goals in the Premier League last year, he was the fourth joint highest marksman in a team that finished second from bottom. Whether he be paired alongside another striker or left on his own, he has proved a menace and his goals could be crucial to any side likely to be in the bottom half of the table.

If we signed Joey Barton I wouldn’t go to a single game while he played for us! thats how strongly I feel about him.
I love a tackling midfield enforcer its my favourite type of player but he is just a plain nasty bit of work and will cause us loads of problems. How many second chances has he had to prove he can control his evil side?
He’s no Julian Dicks and not fit enough to shine the boots of a player like Brooking. Booby Moore would be disgusted with how Joey Barton goes about his business on and off the pitch.
I can imagine him now stubbing a cigarette out on Potts face.
A player that can mess with the harmony of a squad is worthless. Picking a team is not simply about picking the best players, its about picking the players that work best as a team.

If your going to try and sign a player to add steel to a midfield who is passionate why not try and sign Gattuso from Milan on a free. He may be just as short tempered but hes not evil like Joey Barton.

Dann centre back…relegated 2011,relegated 2012 what does that tell you..surely better around!

  • Spence says:

Winston Reid has improved beyond measure over the past season. Hes fit, strong and brave. He must be given a fair chance in The Prem…he deserves it !! If Barton comes within a mile of Upton park watch out for fireworks !!!!!!!!

  • worcester hammer says:

robinson if greens leaves, maybe even a better keeper than green. barton-what a great player, in his mind. he is going to miss 12 games-and then need at least 3/4 to get fit. then we drop a player to make way for him, great for team morale that. we can do so much better.

  • wes c says:

Barton is a good player but still thinks he can get away with Sunday league stuff even when he’s live on tele so there can’t be much going on in that brain can there !! Great player but has let himself down when it matters and good shout from above post , he misses all those games and then he starts !!!! No mate , won’t happen . Watched Rhodes yesterday and really hope someone else buys him , no better than Baldock or Maynard !!!

  • Iain Fordyce says:

As a Blackburn fan, I would seriously advise against signing Dann. I was excited about him signing last summer but was very poor – not remotely commanding and distribution utterly woeful (not that BFS would bother about that)

Yak’s finishing was excellent last year and I could see him doing quite well, providing that he’s given good service. Not one to lump the ball to with the midfield 40 yds behind him mind… he’d need support (take note BFS)

Robinson wouldn’t let you down, probably similar standard to Green.

  • London Rover says:

That’s right. Rovers have got relegated and now all of a sudden we are just mad to chuck all our players out the team at a ‘ bargain bucket’price!! Take your pick………

  • crowsnest says:

I think The Yak could prove a good signing but please not Barton, he is a horrible person and surely WHU dont need anymore bad PR. Pederson from Blackburn would be a player I would sign along with Rhodes. That boy is a natural!

  • Ironman says:

Yes to Robinson if Green goes but i hope he will stay. No to Dann, as said above he was relegated 2011 and 2012, and as he defender he must take part of the blame in what looked like a decent Blackburn team on paper. Michael Owen…. really? Maybe as back up and its worth a punt on a free but what we need and lacked before we signed Vaz Te is a proven goalscorer and one of Premier League quality so no Rohdes, McCormack or Rodriquez please. Yakubu does score goals and would be a good signing although he has the same bra size as Benni McCarthy, would like to see him lose a few pounds, but as they say ‘feed the Yak and he will score’. And finally Barton. What more can you say about this complete liability to every club hes been at, will miss 12 matches for a start then a further 9 for the red cards hes bound to pick up. It would become the Nolan and Barton show which doesn’t sound that exciting as a West Ham fan.
