Was Big Sam wrong?

|

After the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace last time out, controversy surrounded not only the result but the way it was handled.  After the final whistle rang out, there was a chorus of boos for the players and management as they left the Boleyn Ground.  Some said they couldn’t really hear it. Others have said that it was blown a bit out of proportion.  Either way, it was loud and clear enough for the press and Big Sam to comment on it.  The manager came out with pretty harsh comments for the fans reaction to the nil-nil draw, and many have wondered if the manager was right to criticise the fans who, ultimately, are the heartbeat of the club.

Big Sam has never been one to pander to fans, and honestly I whole heartedly agree with him on this point.  To boo the team you support is bad enough, but to boo them after a 0-0 draw is even worse.  To compound the issue, West Ham are still one point behind the league leaders Southampton and we have a game in hand!  Take into account the fact that West Ham were coming off of three consecutive matches playing a man down, and the whole idea becomes utterly ridiculous.  Quite frankly, I don’t see how one can argue here.  You should never boo your own team.  It accomplishes absolutely nothing and, as is often the case, it was completely unwarranted this past week. Solidarity, support, and positivism are the best things fans can show, and I promise they do much more for a team than booing does.

West Ham got what will turn out to be a vital point against Crystal Palace which, for various reasons, was a tough match.  We are still in a good position with a goal in hand and I personally think that those that decided to boo the players off the pitch need a bit of perspective and humility.  West Ham have long been respected due to their incredible support.  Let’s not become one of the spoiled clubs.  With all that is wrong in the modern game, this is one thing that should be easy enough to fix.  Cheer on the Hammers, through thick and thin.

If West Ham are going to play shit long ball northern monkey football then they have to win for the real West Ham fans to put up with it. Only winning will keep the fans from booing. I want to watch West Ham not Bolton and I will boo. You can jog on mate, cannot boo you own team, West Ham have taken thousands of pounds from me so that gives me a right to boo. How else do we let the board know we do not want to watch the shit that is being served up.

Chris- your attitude is crap. How do you think booing the team helps it? Go on, how? And West Ham haven’t taken 1000s off you- you’ve given it them unless you’re claiming that Karen Brady mugged a big boy like you round the back of Priory Road.

If you want to boo your own players and moan like a drain then go somewhere that has a tradition of that type of ‘fan’. Become a spud.
