Refreshed for Tuesday

|

Despite the best efforts of hearty volunteers at London Road, yesterday’s match versus Peterborough fell victim to the weather.

Volunteers from both West Ham and Peterborough flocked to London road in the early hours of the morning, shovel in tow to remove the snow that fell over Thursday and Friday night. But overnight temperatures of -13 meant there superb efforts weren’t enough as the ground underneath has frozen solid, and match officials called the game off as early as 8 am Saturday morning.

Thankfully the West Ham coaches hadn’t left for the game and many fans heard the news before setting off meaning the decision to call the game off so early was correct. The fixture will be rearranged to another date, likely to be midweek. It is unknown whether all match tickets will be valid as the terrace may have already been knocked down meaning a mad scramble for tickets in the seating area could occur.

The players were on the way to Cambridge when Big Sam was alerted to the news of the postponement. He said; “We were on our way down and they told us to turn around as there was no point in coming down as the pitch was solid.”

The postponement meant the Hammers had an extra days training before the top of the table clash on Tuesday night against Southampton where the Irons could go four points clear at the summit of the Championship with a game in hand.

One players who is desperate to make an impression is new signing Nicky Maynard who is itching to pull on the claret and blue for the first time. Maynard who has already scored against Southampton in his old team Bristol City’s shock win at Ashton gate is relishing playing at Upton Park and hopes he can show the Upton Park faithful what he can do on Tuesday night; saying “Hopefully I’ll be involved – the sooner the better for me because I can get to know the lads and get to play in front of the West Ham faithful.”

Roll on Tuesday night.

Come on You Irons!
