Time for Jack to take centre stage?

|

With the ensuing ban for Kevin Nolan about to start with Saturday’s trip to Peterborough; thoughts are starting to turn to who should step in and partner Mark Noble in the engine room of the Hammers midfield?

Some fans would love to see the much ballyhooed Ravel Morrison come in; after all he has been described as the most talented prospect the Manchester United academy has produced since Paul Scholes…whilst it would tempting to throw him in and see what he is truly capable of. I believe he should be gradually integrated into the team as doesn’t exactly have much in the way of match fitness; having barely figured for Man United this season.

Instead I feel it’s time for Jack Collison who has been shunted about all over the place this season: popping up on the left of a three man attack, on the right of a three man attack and on the left of a four man midfield to finally be given a run in his natural position through the middle.

Since Collison broke into the first team a couple of years back under the tutelage and guidance of Gianfranco Zola he has impressed with his ability to create, his vision and his eye for goal. But since the horrific injury sustained in the 08/09 season Collison’s return to first team action has seen him played pretty much everywhere but central midfield… as a result we haven’t seen the best of him since he made his return at the end of last season.

Now Nolan is suspended I do believe he’s earned the right to play through the middle alongside his fellow academy graduate Mark Noble. Hopefully it will herald the renaissance of one of the brightest prospects our famed academy has produced in the last few years.

Ravel Morrison’s time will come but for now surely this is Jack Collison’s chance to step up from the under-card to the main event. Together they should prove the basis of the West Ham midfield for many years to come and I think that’s a prospect that excites everyone.

For now though it’s time for our number 10 just like countless others before him to take centre stage.

I’m abit sceptical to be honest, he don’t look the fittest of players at the min he’s defo not been the same player since he came back I’m just not to sure you could play him in just a 2 man midfiled Im in just 2 minds with it I do think he’s been out of position all season so maybe give him a chance just worried with fitness

Not for me. If the last 2 matches have taught Big Sam anything is that the side needs to be balanced. We definitely need a defensive midfield player in the side any we also need width on either side of midfield. We also ideally need a left footed player on the left hand side of midfield.

We will also never score more than the odd goal with just 1 striker. Playing 4-4-2 and with the right combination up front we should have good balance in the side.

Big Sam is best placed to say who the front 2 should be as he should know all of the contenders strenghts and weaknesses, and particlarly those of the 2 new forward signings.

    442 all day for me

    Cole Maynard

    Taylor Noble Diop Faubert

    McCartney Faye Tomkins O’Brien

    Green

Subs – Reid, Lansbury, Baldock, Morrison, Vaz Te

Think we need to have Diop in there if playing with some proper wingers

  • Tevez32 says:

    Cole Maynard

    Taylor Tomkins Noble Faubert

    McCartney Reid Faye O’Brien

    Green

Don’t think you can overlook Tomkins in the middle of the park, his ball playing and ability to help the back four was essential against Millwall. It’ll give Noble a bit more freedom to create

  • Gary says:

    Taylor Cole Vaz Te
    Collison Diop Noble
    McCartney Faye Tomkins O’Brien
    Green

That would be my team, subs: Reid, Lansbury, Faubert, Maynard, Baldock
