RUMOUR MILL:Hammers bid for England Under 21 striker

|

West Ham have turned their attentions elsewhere in a bid to strengthen their strikeforce by tabling a £2m offer for England Under-21 striker Marvin Sordell, it has been reported.

The Sun is claiming Sam Allardyce has moved for Watford’s top scorer after being frustrated in his efforts to land Huddersfield Town hot-shot Jordan Rhodes and Jamie Mackie, from Queens Park Rangers.

The highly-rated Sordell, who has also been linked with Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers, has become a key part of Stuart Pearce’s younger international set-up and took his goals tally for the Hornets into double figures last weekend by netting in the 4-2 FA Cup win over Bradford City.

The Hammers are believed to have upped their offer for Rhodes to £4.5m this week, but the League One club see the prolific Scot is a vital part of their promotion push, so Allardyce seems to have dropped this attempt and has turned his attentions to the prospect Sordell.
