Happy Anniversary Carlton!

|

The summer of 2006 and West Ham have just qualified for Europe after being heart broken in the FA Cup against Liverpool, well Steven Gerrard anyway…

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

Alan Pardew, looking to improve and bolster his squad for the season ahead and turns to a young promising Chelsea reserve. Strong, tall, powerful, athletic and pacey Carlton Cole in theory looked the rough diamond Pards could polish into a lethal Premier League striker…so six years on what have been Cole’s top five Hammers moments?

Well to be frank, if after six years were only looking for five top moments things haven’t gone to plan surely?

Cole is one of the most frustrating players I personally have ever watched, I’ve seen a young athlete power through the opposition, show good touch and smash the ball in to the goal from distance, then we have the clumsy awkward, unbalanced Bambi on ice , that at six foot plus can’t even jump for a header, bare in mind, when on loan at Villa Park the Vlla faithful called him ‘Can’t control’!

Still, Cole has had as few moments of real quality in the real claret and blue jersey so here’s my top five moments:

  • Vs the Spuds at the Boleyn under Zola 09/10 season Cole showed what he should be all about, with power and aggression he controls the ball , turns and smashes a half volley into the top right hand corner of the net..power accuracy aggression pure quality!
  • Semi final vs. Brum St Andrews, Cole controls near the left touchline, turns and powers towards the Birmingham goal, from fully 30 yards he unleashes an unstoppable half volley into the bottom corner. this is what Cole should be doing week in week out.
  • vs. Wigan away, Cole is spearheading the hammers attack, four one touch passes involving Di Michelle and noble open space on the edge of the box, where Cole calmly and expertly curls in to bottom left corner. Sweet touch, class finish.
  • Looking for experience? Just want to be heard outside of the Boleyn? We are currently looking for writers, drop us an email at foreverwestham@snack-media.com for more details
  • vs Burnley, home third round League Cup. Cole pulls away from the back line, holding his line perfectly , a 30 yard, lofted pass finds his run , Cole burns the Burnley defence to get on the end of it and rips a shot curled into the top right corner.
  • Finally, a moment I think , most Hammers fans will remember and outshone the game it came from the League cup semi final at Upton park and the Hammers striker has scored a rather bizarre goal to grab a last minute winner for his team. Cole steps up for an after game interview on live TV his head glowing and throwing steam into the cold night air , making Cole look like some kind of demon!! This was when Carlton introduced the new word..OVER CHUFFED!! I’m over chuffed, the lads are over chuffed. The back pages and web sites loved it, great natural moment.

So, these are my top five Carlton Cole moments, six years on and were still waiting to see Cole be the polished gem Pardew bought into?

What a strange article. You finish it with something that no West Ham fan should give a shit about. Sums up almost perfectly how you think of Carlton. You’re missing the point. Played up front on his own for at least half his time here, works tirelessly and get’s little credit. Probably what you’re thinking about yourself now you’ve written this article. Just an opinion, but fairly ironic nonetheless.
