The Last Time: Eleven minute blitz seals victory

Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 West Ham United

Creswell Lampard

Hinchcliffe

Alexandersson

You have to go back nearly 12 years to find the last league match between Saturday’s FA Cup opponents Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham.

Frank Lampard put West Ham in front after just 10 minutes, but the home side, who were already battling relegation fought back after half time to produce a memorable win.

It took Sheffield Wednesday just 11 minutes to score all three of their goals as West Ham were blown away, Richard Creswell levelled the scores in the 55th minute, before two goals in quick succession in the 63rd and 66th minute from Andrew Hinchcliffe and Niclas Alexandersson gave Wednesday faint hope that they might survive the Premiership season.

As it turned out, West Ham would go on to finish 9th, 3 points and 2 goals away from 7th place while Wednesday would finish 2nd from bottom and they haven’t returned since.
