Do we rely too much on our Roy of the Rovers?

|

Over the past few weeks there has been one stand out player in the West Ham ranks and thanks to his composure in front of goal the Hammers currently sit three points clear at the summit of the Championship as we near the end of January.

Mark Noble has come into his own this season after the departure of Scott Parker in the summer and is now the enforcer of the Irons midfield that is beginning to control games from start to finish. Noble’s range of passing and tackling has improved over the past twelve months and the Hammers vice-captain is one of the first names on the team sheet.
There is no doubt that the loyal academy product has been head and shoulders above his fellow midfielders Kevin Nolan and Papa Bouba Diop becoming a key player in Sam Allardyce’s side this campaign. Noble scored the only goal from the spot at Portsmouth to give the Hammers a hard fought away win on the south coast, followed by two penalties in a 2-0 home win over Nottingham Forest which sent West Ham top of the league for the first time this season.

It is fair to say that West Ham have relied on Noble to lead the team and score vital goals this season as well as his set piece brilliance to battle through to vital wins in important games this season. The English midfielder has been selected in Stuart Pearce’s preliminary squad for Team GB for the Olympics and it is surely a matter of time before the next England manager at least has a look at the 24-year-old for an international cap.
However, it would be unfair to say that West Ham have been overly relied on Noble as the likes of Sam Baldock, Rob Green and especially James Tomkins have been equally brilliant in the opening six months of the season and if a few more step up to the plate then West Ham and Mark Noble will be in the Premier League come August.

Still need a creative midfielder and quick and skillful wingers need to blow some of these teams away in the 2nd part of this season, coyi!

The nots game was 2-1 not 2-0

He has had a decent season so far, but I wouldn’t say he has been Brilliant!

I completely disagree, I along with several others in the chicken run, have been calling for noble to be dropped in favour of robert hall (with collison going inside and hall playing behind the front men. We lack pace and on the bench we have er… pace. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist.

  • Brad Pinard says:

Noble has been far superior to Collison this season, but I agree we need width and pace. Although Hall not ready in my opinion, don’t want another Sears thank you…
