It is understood that Fulham are set to make a £4 million bid for Carlton Cole sometime in the January transfer window. However I can’t see the two David’s letting Cole go for that sum having already rejected a £4 million bid last August from Galatasaray for the 28-year-old England international. Fulham manager Martin Jol is, nevertheless, a long-time admirer of Cole and attempted to sign him when the Dutchman was in charge of Tottenham Hotspur.
That interest was rekindled in the summer when it was also mooted that West Ham might be interested in Fulham striker Andrew Johnson, but no offer was made. West Ham remain interested in Johnson but accept that with his wage demands, of around £2 million a year, they would not be able to afford the 30 year-old in January.
What I fail to understand is that if we are prepared to pay in the regions of 8 million for Zamora why on earth would we let Cole go for only 4? Cole is not only younger but in my opinion better. Zamora is knocking on and will not be able to bring a lot to the team.
I personally think Fulham are taking liberties and they will have to stump up at least 7 million to lure Cole away from Upton Park.
Yes its worth it! That would be day light robbery in my opinion. I personally feel we could get Maynard then for £3 million (seeing at Cahill has gone from £17m to £7m since the summer) and Maynard knows where the goal is, he’ll be more prolific than Cole.

Cole is 28 with a strike rate of about a goal every 4 games, and playing against Championship defences haven’t improved this rate.
Consider, he is getting on with the strike rate of a good midfielder. £4m seems about right.
we’d be lucky to get 4p for him. Last time we were in championship we had defoe, zamora, harewood, sheringham up front and still struggled to get promoted, now we have to rely on this brainless idiot. Honestly one of the worst players, not just for west ham but in premiership history. can’t people see this guy is robbing a living!
