Time to throw this young man into the first team?

|

At the present time West Ham have a lot of youth players out on loan at various clubs including AFC Wimbledon and Dagenham and Redbridge.

A certain Frank Nouble’s loan spell at Gillingham ended on Saturday and sine he has returned to his parent club West Ham. At Saturday’s game against Barnsley I think it’s fair to say that our front 3 bar Carlton Cole were extremely unimpressive.

Freddie Piquionne was an utter shambles and John Carew wasn’t much better. There is a saying; “If you are good enough you’re old enough”. The squad has been hit with injury and the forwards are not supplying what we need right now so it’s a good time to start the younger players.

Frank Nouble has highly impressed Gills manager Andy Hessenthaler with 5 goals in 11 starts before Saturday’s game. So given his stats and his glowing appraisal from Hessenthaler is it time for the 20 year old to stake a place in the first team?

Well I personally think it is, let’s face it the young striker surely cannot be any worse that Piquionne. Nouble in my eyes is worth a try especially when the growing consensus amongst the fans around Upton Park is that we need a prolific goal-scorer (which we do) it would be a perfect time to start Nouble given we have 2 games before the January transfer window opens.

Although the young forward might prove not good enough, given our striking troubles and the fact that there is 2 games until we can bring in a prolific forward I deem it wise to give Frank Nouble a chance, as Danny Potts was given a chance against Barnsley and everyone is now raving about his terrific performance! Who knows Nouble may even prove a valuable source of goals.

I’d love to see Nouble and, especially, Hall given a chance. They should be understudies to Cole and Baldock respectively and they’ll either sink or swim. If we don’t trust them to play at this level they’re obviously never going to get a game in the Premiership and so we might as well give up on them.

Plus, as you say, it is hard to see either of them being worse than Piquionne.

I very much doubt that Sam agree with me though – he seems terrified of young players.

Surely Big Sam will be giving them both the chance of a start in the FA cup where he has nothing to lose and will want to rest the entire first team. Big Sam only gets his £1M bonus if we get promoted, a cup run is irrelevent to him except maybe to blood some of our young blood.
