Another Ferdy in the works?

|

West Ham have been linked with a move for Southend United youngster Kane Ferdinand. The Sun says Hammers chief scout Martin Glover has watched Ferdinand in his last three games for the League Two leaders.

Kane Ferdinand is cousins with former Hammers defenders Rio and Anton, however he is a different to his famous cousins as he is a midfielder.

Sam Allardyce is reportedly ready to pay the Shrimpers £500,000 in the January transfer window to take the youngster away from Roots Hall.

Kane was born in London but has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level. He has played twice for the U18’s and six times for the U19’s.

Ferdinand came through Southend United’s youth system, making his professional debut in January this year, playing 90 minutes in their 2–0 away win at Oxford United in League Two. He scored his first goal for the club on 15th February in the 3–2 victory over Wycombe Wanderers. In March, Ferdinand signed a two-and-a-half year professional contract with Southend.

I haven’t seen much match action of him but he is known as one not afraid to put a challenge in and has a decent range of passing, if he keeps progressing he may well end up at Upton Park like his famous cousins.
