The selling of academy products stops with this one!

|

James Tomkins is one of West Ham’s highly touted home-grown talents and at 22, he’s still considered young and yet he has immense experience to draw upon. He has played for England at all levels from the U15s to the U21s, he has played for West Ham in the Premier League and he has experienced the pain of relegation and is currently thriving in the Championship.

A physical player, Tomkins is also exceedingly skilled in the air, making himself a regular threat for West Ham’s set pieces and he is equally adept at defending against opposing teams’. His marking has made vast improvements since making his first team debut several years ago. Tomkins is also a flexible player, being comfortable in central defence as well as on the right side. All these facts together point towards a bright future for James Tomkins, but does his future see him playing somewhere other than at Upton Park?

It has been reported that OPR manager Neil Warnock, is interested in stealing the young talent from the Boleyn and is supposedly considering a bid in the upcoming transfer window. It should not even be a question as to whether or not West Ham should consider selling Tomkins. The days of selling the finest testaments to West Ham’s fabled youth academy should be a thing of the past if the club is to build towards a more stable future. It is hard to see QPR being able to offer any real large sum of money, but this should not be a factor, given these three points: First, the Englishman is a player for the future for club and country and given that he came through the ranks of West Ham’s Academy, should he not stay at West Ham? Secondly, Tomkins has the experience (even at age 22) to provide a real backbone for a West Ham team that will hopefully be competing in the Premier League next season.  And lastly, West Ham simply cannot afford to give up any defenders at this point, as we are extremely thin as it is.

The selling of James Tomkins is simply not an option.  He has too much to offer to West Ham in the current situation, he has too much to offer West Ham in the future.  The selling of young home-grown talent must stop if West Ham is to stabilise and maintain a steady climb up the ranks of English football again.

He ein’t be sold, and even if he were to be 3 million is anywhere near enough

@cb The headline and article never suggest he has been told!? Anyway, a great piece however I would actually take £3mil for Tomkins. For all his good traits I just think he doesn’t stay focused for 90 minutes, liability maybe a strong word but we should definately cash in and buy a couple of other centre backs in Jan

Why would he leave to go to QPR? They are certain to go down (if not this year then in the near future). I really don’t rate him anyway, but to leave us for QPR!? Mnetal to even think that was a consideration….they’ve got Dyer and Gabbidon, so what does that tell you about their long term future? Down.

  • Phil says:

Why would anyone want to move to a club managed by the idiot Warnock? If QPR don’t get rid of the shining wit they’ll definitely go down!

I honestly can not believe some of our fans sometimes and the comments above ^^. The 2 guys that said they don’t rate Tomkins are clearly arm chair fans and know nothing about football.

I am not joking when i say this, Tomkins is in the top 5 best English CB’s in this country.

If we can keep hold of him for a few years he will be worth 20 mil +, mark my words. But please stay James, all your proper fans love u!

“Opta Joe noted that Liverpool would be fourth in the leugae if all the shots which hit the frame were goals.”Do you know if this stat includes other teams woodwork shots as goals too?
