The State of the West Ham Union

|

Looking ahead to the future of the club, West Ham are in a very unique position going forward. We all know the state of the academy, it seems it can produce good young talent almost on a whim. The loses of Stanislas and Hines hurts no doubt, but with Tomkins, Sears, Spence and Noble being all graduates I still have faith in Tony Carr to continue doing what he does best.

Though the club is in the Championship, and it’s never a good thing to be relegated, I feel it gives us a chance to see the talent such as Tomkins play everyday. Last year would anyone have guessed Winston Reid could play this well? Granted he hasn’t shown Premier League qualities yet but he is getting time and improving. New addition Sam Baldock would not get a chance to be on the bench if this club was still in the top flight. I feel he could be a great striker, and he will get his chance in this division.

With the move to the Olympic Stadium coming after the Olympics, West Ham have a unique chance to be one of those rich clubs in English football. No matter how you feel about the move, the fact of the matter is the club will get rich, Gold and Sullivan have at least gotten that right. The only catch is that the club needs to be in the PL by the time they move and I feel with he squad they have put together can get them back this year.

The squad has a few holes still, but I would feel comfy with this squad next year in the Premier League, that being said I would like to add strength in attack and defence. Look at the squad: Taylor, Nolan, Green, and Noble are all very capable PL players. Cole could be if he was consistent. Carew and Faye have great experience. Tomkins, Collison and O’Brien are on the cusp of being top PL players.

The loans I would make a permanent moves for if we go up are Bentley and Lansbury. I like both and feel they could contribute next year. Lansbury I’d sign either way, he is a talent that Arsenal maybe willing to part with. Even McCartney would do well to make the move back to Upton Park if we do get promoted back next year.

The state the club is in, though it is not in the top flight, can only go up from here (no pun intended). It’s up to the owners and the front office to NOT screw this up, I realise that this maybe a tall order. The stadium, the squad, the academy, and the fans are all there, it’s now up to the big wigs to make sure it happens.
