According to reports, West Ham were offered the chance to sign Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo but the club have instead opted for Atletico Madrid striker Raul Jimenez instead.

Although Jimenez is clearly a striker with potential, a player like Negredo would have been a good option for the club, if the reports are true of course.

When Negredo first joined Manchester City in 2013, the Hammers were firmly interested in signing him and even made a bid for the then-Sevilla striker but he opted for the riches available at Manchester City.

During his time in English football, he proved to be a decent player, showcasing his ability as a target man but also possessing good feet. He scored nine league goals in his first and only Premier League campaign in 2013/14 and scored just five goals last season for Valencia.

Negredo himself was keen to stay at the Spanish club but current manager Nuno does not want him, throwing his future into doubt. He has been offered to a number of Spanish and English clubs as a potential loan option but he is yet to find another club.

Although it is unlikely that West Ham will move for the player, it will be interesting to see how the club reacts if Jimenez is not granted his work permit.

Who should the club sign? Jimenez or Negredo?
