West Ham are understood to be closing in on the signing of Alex Song from Barcelona and it could cost the club absolutely nothing in terms of a transfer fee.

The Catalan club wanted to hold out for a fee of around £5 million but West Ham made it clear that they would not be willing to pay that figure as the Cameroonian has no future at the Nou Camp.

The Hammers are in pole position to sign the midfielder as no other clubs in London are interested in acquiring the services of the former Arsenal man.

The only potential stumbling block now is the player himself. Song seems to be happy with the prospect of returning to East London but according to ClaretandHugh, the midfielder is holding out for a five year deal but Bilic will only offer Song a three year contract.

Although there seems to be a bit of a dispute over contract length, the Hammers should look to tie up this deal imminently as Song was absolutely outstanding for the club before Christmas last season.

With a full Premier League season under his belt, a fitter Alex Song may be able to rekindle his pre-Christmas performances for an entire season and if West Ham can get hold of a player of Song’s talent for free, the deal seems like an absolute no brainer.

Song would become West Ham’s third signing of the summer after the club have already secured the signings of goalkeeper Darren Randolph and midfielder Pedro Obiang. If Song does sign, West Ham would have added three extra players to the squad without spending over £5 million which seems like excellent business so far.

I’m having a problem with the fact that song was having a big problem with the second half of the season, he is definitely a quality player but I wouldn’t give him a 5 year contract, but to have him in the locker is a bonus especially with us starting our season on the 2nd of July COYI !!!.

I met Alex Song today and he confirmed that he is signing on a season long loan deal. I have sent photos taken today of Alex in his West Ham training kit to James as proof that I met him!
It can be argued as though it has already been a fairly successful transfer window thus far for the Hammers, signing top class talent in Dmitri Payet who got the most assists in Ligue 1 last season and will surely demonstrate the same sort of form in the premier league. It can be argued as though this is the next step for West Ham, signing a player of that extra quality but to make the jump up, more players of his stature needs to be introduced and a classic example of someone who can join Payet is Alex Song.

Alex Song is of course a household name now for West Ham fans, who clearly recognised his footballing ability and talent last year from his solidity in midfield to picking out that final pass that would so often end in a goal. He has proven himself at Arsenal to be labelled ‘world class’ before moving on to Barcelona by which he hasn’t really kicked off his career in the way by which he would have wanted to have done meaning that he moved to The Hammers on a season long loan. What the Hammers have really wanted is to sign Alex Song, so that they can have another player of this stature. Currently Alex plays for Barcelona but in this article, I shall discuss how I know he is signing for West Ham, which is exactly what the Hammers’ fans want to hear, considering they will be playing European football next season.

Today, I was in Golders Green, North London, and outside the tube station stood Alex Song alongside his Rolls Royce. The natural reaction would be to go up to him, ask him for a photo and to possibly ask him for an autograph, but this situation wasn’t like any other. This was a bust up over a car crash that occurred between him and a woman. There was a long argument between them as to who was responsible. Song was sure that he wasn’t to blame and of course wanted the woman to get her insurance to pay for the damage to his car (very little as it seemed). The woman refused, wanting to end this argument, trying to get her daughter to hospital for a pre-booked appointment, (not an injury) but as soon as she found out he was a footballer, she agreed to phone her insurance in order to pay for Song’s damaged car. Once this had all been sorted, people came up to Song asking for pictures, giving their compliments to him but I waited for everyone to do this and then got a picture with him, but also questioned him on his future.

When speaking to him, I paid my compliments to Alex Song, speaking about his footballing attributes that I mentioned above for the reasons in which all West Ham fans would love him to be their player next season. After this, I asked Song whether he would be joining West Ham considering that he was in a West Ham kit and his simple answer was “yes, on loan”.

Whilst this transfer deal may not be permanent, which many West Ham fans would prefer, Alex Song will be staying at Upton Park next year to help Payet, Adrian and co. This could be the beginning of what could a highly successful season for the Hammers in their last year at Upton Park.
