Former Hammers hero amongst the most likeable despite switch

Former West Ham United midfield enforcer Scott Parker has ranked amongst the Premier League’s most likeable footballers, in a poll run by FootballFanCast.com

Out of nearly 3,000 votes, 306 fans (11%) voted the tenacious pro as their fourth most likeable pro in the division, falling short to Mikel Arteta (27%), Brad Friedel (15%) and ‘other’ personalities (14%) in the final standings.

FootballFanCast has been polling 12,000 football fans, picking their brains at what makes a footballer favourable or unfavourable, aiming to reveal a set of respected characteristics amongst supporters.

The set of five individual polls raised by FootballFanCast are hoped to provide a complete profile of modern footballers.

Starting his career at Charlton Athletic in 2007, the combative midfielder has spent the majority of his career in London playing for Chelsea, West Ham United and current club Tottenham Hotspur as well as a two year spell up north with Newcastle.

Tough despite his 5’ 9” frame, Parker is something of a late bloomer with his tactical reading of the game improving with age and an increased number of caps with the England national team that now stands at 17.

Parker may have ruffled more feathers following his 2011 switch from West Ham to London rivals Spurs but his talismanic, single handed displays in 2010/11 and the Hammers subsequent relegation meant the Football Writers Player of the Year was reluctantly parted with to complete the £5.5m transfer.

In regards to what supporters respect in modern day footballers, traits of loyalty scored highly at 547 votes out of 1,718 (32%) and Parker joining a rival would usually be frowned upon even more, but the trait of talent scored highest with 686 votes (40%) and it is without question that Parker is viewed by many as a model professional, despite swapping allegiances.
