Graham Potter is yet to make his first summer signing for West Ham, with other Premier League clubs already starting to conduct business.
The Hammers finished 14th in the league, losing 17 games in the process, showing that recruitment is needed if they’re looking to improve next season.
Goal scoring has been a concern since Potter’s arrival, with the team managing to score more than two goals on only two occasions in his 19 games in charge.
As a result, it’s expected the Hammers will be looking to prioritise recruitment in attack this summer.
Hammers want Hutchinson
One player that could do just that is 21-year-old Ipswich Town winger Omari Hutchinson, according to the Daily Mail.
The player is currently on international duty for England U21s, helping the side get to the semi-finals, where they face the Netherlands on Wednesday evening.
Hutchinson was a regular for relegated Ipswich last season, playing 31 games in the league, scoring three goals and assisting a further two.
While not the most impressive of stats, he was undoubtedly one of the more exciting prospects for the Tractor Boys, with a special goal against Manchester United the pinnacle of his season.
Hutchinson impressed during his loan spell in the Championship with Ipswich in the 2023/24 season, producing 16 goal contributions and helping them make a long-awaited return to the Premier League, a campaign that ultimately led to his permanent move to the club from Chelsea.
The Hammers will face fierce competition from other Premier League clubs if they want to land a deal for the young talent, including Everton, Brentford and Fulham.
The former Chelsea man has reportedly expressed a desire to continue playing at the top level, something that will give the Hammers some hope they can land a deal for the player, who is currently valued in the region of £30million by Ipswich.
The Daily Mail’s report compares Hutchinson to Jarrod Bowen, suggesting he could go on to have a similar impact as the Hammers captain in the Premier League for whoever signs him.
Bowen joined West Ham from Hull City for £20m in January 2020 and he has gone on to score 74 goals and assist a further 51 in 238 first-team appearances for the Hammers.
Given West Ham’s previous success in signing players from the Championship and turning them into proven top-flight stars, Bowen joining the likes of Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell in that category, there is an element of intrigue and excitement surrounding the potential of Hutchinson arriving in east London this summer.
