Graham Potter has had a disastrous start to life at West Ham, with the manager winning just three games in 16 since his arrival.
The Hammers’ last victory came in February – a 2-0 win against now-relegated Leicester – making it eight games without a win for the East London side.
However, it is expected the board will back Potter this summer, despite the 49-year-old coming under serious scrutiny in recent weeks.
It’s fair to say nearly every position on the pitch needs improvement after what’s been a quite calamitous season for the Hammers, and it’s imperative that Potter brings in the right players who will ultimately improve the side and also fit the manager’s plans.
One player West Ham have showed interest in, according to Football Insider, is Burnley midfielder and captain Josh Brownhill, who is out of contract this summer.
West Ham plot Brownhill coup
Burnley have been nothing short of exceptional this season under former West Ham skipper Scott Parker, racking up 100 points and narrowly missing out on the Championship title to Leeds United on goal difference.
The Clarets have the best defensive record in the top four leagues by some distance, conceding just 16 goals in 46 league games.
The Lancashire side have had no trouble finding the net either, scoring 69 goals in the league, and the man that’s racked up the most goals for them is the skipper, Josh Brownhill.
Brownhill has been brilliant for Burnley this season, scoring 18 goals and getting a further 6 assists, putting him a goal behind Leeds’ Joel Piroe for the Golden Boot.
These statistics are incredibly impressive for a central midfielder and has made him a standout performer in the league this term, but he is out of contract this summer and it is unsure whether he will be signing a new contract.
Football Insider report that both West Ham and Everton are eyeing a potential free transfer for Brownhill, with both clubs seeking midfield reinforcements after underwhelming seasons.
Brownhill seems like a very suitable candidate for Potter, particularly with the midfielder having plenty of Premier League experience, playing 111 games in the top-flight.
Should Brownhill move on from Burnley, this is definitely an option West Ham should look to explore in the upcoming window.
