This season has been a struggle for West Ham, plagued by poor results and countless injuries.

The Hammers have suffered long-term injuries to summer signings Niclas Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville this season, while also seeing their all-time top Premier League goal scorer Michail Antonio out of action since December following a serious car accident.

West Ham’s star man Jarrod Bowen was also out of action for over a month, while Lucas Paqueta has missed game time in recent weeks through injury.

In what has been a calamitous season both on and off the pitch for the Hammers, the recent revelation of Summerville’s recovery from a hamstring injury sustained against Aston Villa in the FA Cup over two months ago is likely to add to the frustration among West Ham supporters.

Summerville and Antonio injury updates

According to ExWHUEmployee on the West Ham Way podcast, the Dutch winger has allegedly refused surgery for his injury, meaning there is an element of ‘confusion’ about when we will see him back in action.

It is understood the 23-year-old was on track to be available for West Ham’s trip to Everton this weekend, but a senior club source revealed that: ‘Sadly, he’s refused an operation so we haven’t an idea.’

This news would suggest it’s quite unlikely the winger will be featuring in Saturday’s squad, and once more adds more confusion as to when he will return to the side.

In more positive news, there is a chance we could see Antonio back in action before the end of the season following his horrific car accident in December, which saw him sustain serious lower leg injuries.

The 34-year-old was in attendance at the London Stadium on Monday for West Ham’s defeat to Newcastle, where a giant banner honouring the striker was unveiled in the Bobby Moore Lower before the game.

Graham Potter revealed some somewhat promising news regarding Antonio’s chances of featuring this season, suggesting the Jamaica international’s return to playing could come in the near future:

‘I wouldn’t be thinking anything (of a potential return) this side of the international break. It’s not a case of rushing it but it’s certainly positive,’ Potter said.

Antonio has just returned from some warm weather training in Dubai, and with some positive comments from Potter regarding the forward’s progress, there is no doubt his recovery is heading in the right direction.
