West Ham are looking to make a double free signing this summer for Lille duo Jonathan David and Angel Gomes, according to The Guardian.

The pair are out of contract at the end of the season but have been an integral part of the side currently sitting fifth in Ligue 1 and in the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

David has been a revelation since joining Lille in 2020, scoring 105 goals for the club.

The Canadian is once more having a fine season, currently on 13 league goals and six Champions League goals this season, adding to his already impressive tally at the club.

Gomes has also proved to be a successful signing for the French side since joining from Manchester United in 2020, putting in some impressive performances over the last few years.

The 24-year-old is just off the back of a particularly brilliant season in 2023/24 in which he was rated Lille’s best player by SofaScore, ultimately earning him his first England cap in September last year.

West Ham’s chances of signing the pair

The talented duo will undoubtedly be on the radar of many clubs this summer, especially as the pair are unlikely to sign new contracts with Lille.

It is understood that Graham Potter is looking to strengthen the midfield in the summer, so Gomes feels like a no-brainer as a midfielder who is comfortable on the ball and will come at no cost.

The Guardian have reported that Aston Villa, Tottenham, Manchester United and a number of Bundesliga clubs are also interested in his signature.

David is also a player many clubs have their eye on, including the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona, who are reportedly interested in signing the striker.

The midfield and striker departments are areas Potter will look to improve in the summer transfer window, and these free options will certainly be signings he should be pushing for given the shortcomings of the current squad this season.
