Evan Ferguson has completed his medical and is set to sign for West Ham United on a loan deal from Brighton, Sky Sports reports.

The Hammers have been heavily linked with the Irish international in recent weeks with the striker struggling for game time in the South Coast.

The signing will mean Ferguson will reunite with Graham Potter, who gave him his debut in English football.

West Ham fans will be hopeful they won’t have to wait too long to see the 20-year-old in action, with the player coming off the bench in Brighton’s 7-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, his first appearance since before Christmas.

The signing of a striker will no doubt be a welcome sight for the Hammers who have been plagued with injuries to their frontmen this season.

The straight loan deal has not reportedly come with any option or obligation to buy. If the player proves to be a good signing for the Hammers and performs well in a West Ham shirt, it may worry fans that this could elevate his price tag in the summer.

Ward-Prowse recalled from Forest

Nottingham Forest have terminated the loan contract of James Ward-Prowse, meaning the midfielder will return to West Ham.

The 30-year-old struggled for regular game time at Forest who sit third in the league, featuring only 10 times in the league this season.

Ward-Prowse was an integral part of the team last season, scoring seven goals and making 12 assists for the Hammers.

From a West Ham fan’s perspective, this almost feels like a new signing, with the Hammers crying out for a consistent midfielder this season who keeps the game ticking.

The midfielder was clearly not favoured by Julen Lopetegui, who decided to let the player out on loan, but with Ward-Prowse now returning in a mutual agreement between Forest and West Ham, this could suggest he might be part of Graham Potter’s plans moving forward this season.

Ward-Prowse covered the most ground of any West Ham player last season, which added to his already impressive goal contribution numbers.

In a side that has been overrun far too often in midfield this season, the energy and legs of Ward-Prowse is something that could well see the Englishman get regular game time once more for the Hammers.

Also, the quality Ward-Prowse possesses from dead-ball situations makes him a welcome addition to the side and will undoubtedly make the Hammers a greater threat at set-pieces.
