West Ham are interested in signing Lille and Canada striker Jonathan David on a free this summer according to the Guardian, while the Sun have reported that the Hammers have also showed interest in Southampton centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
West Ham currently sit 16th in the league in what has been an incredibly underwhelming season for the east London side, and both the centre-back and centre-forward positions are areas of the pitch that Graham Potter will undoubtedly be looking to strengthen.
David has scored 20 goals in all competitions for Lille this season, which includes six goals in eight games in the Champions League.
West Ham were interested in signing David last summer but moved away from the deal, with Lille demanding too much for the striker.
The 25-year-old has scored 104 goals during his five-year stint with the French side but is out of contract in the summer, meaning the Hammers would be able to get the player on a free.
West Ham will unsurprisingly not be the only club trying to sign the Canadian this summer, with Italian giants Inter and Juventus also showing interest in the forward.
West Ham are still without Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug through injury which subsequently led to the loan signing of Evan Ferguson in January, but with no guarantee the Irish international will join permanently this summer, the Hammers will have to look at other options in a position that they desperately need to improve next transfer window, and David feels like a fantastic option.
Harwood-Bellis interest
Harwood-Bellis is said to have been ‘fancied’ by West Ham according to Sun reporter Alan Nixon, with Southampton looking very likely to be relegated back to the Championship at the end of the season.
The England international signed for the Saints from Manchester City for £20million last summer, but it is believed that the West Ham could complete the signing of the 23-year-old for just £15million this summer.
According to SofaScore, Harwood-Bellis has been Southampton’s second best outfield performer this season, which earned him an England call-up last year, and the centre-back capped off his first and only England cap to date with a goal.
It’s clear West Ham are struggling in the centre-back department, with the likes of Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo struggling for form this season, so the interest in the Saints man does make sense, especially with his age and price tag making him an attractive prospect.
