According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, West Ham United are set to have a quiet January transfer window despite a disappointing start to the 24/25 Premier League season.

The Hammers have not started the season as planned after a huge summer transfer window. They shelled out £120million (as per Transfermarkt) to help new manager Julen Lopetegui rebuild the squad after parting ways with former manager David Moyes.

As a result of the poor start, sitting 13th in the league with just three wins, it was expected that Irons brass would once again dip into the market to give their new manager even more weapons to help turn their fortunes around.

However, according to O’Rourke’s sources, it would be a “surprise” to see David Sullivan and Tim Steidten bring in any names during January after their expensive summer with the looming threat of PSR sanctions in the back of their minds.

Less might be more

A quiet January could be the best thing for this West Ham team. They need to focus on integrating their summer signings into the team first and letting them get comfortable with the system before adding any new signings.

Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have seen a good amount of minutes and starts but others like Crysencio Summerville and Carlos Soler have seen minimal game time until recently.

They have bags of potential and it would be foolish not to see what you have before bringing in competition and potentially knocking their confidence so early in their West Ham tenure.

It can take time to adapt to new systems, and it can take even longer when playing in a league as demanding and competitive as the Premier League. Unlike in the Bundesliga or La Liga, there are no easy games; every one is now a must-win.

We have seen glimpses of what this Lopetegui side is capable of, given more time and consistency they have the talent to push up the table and get back to fighting for a European spot.
