Former West Ham United man Stuart Pearce recently claimed that the current Hammers squad is the strongest in the club’s history, but believes fans may not agree.

After an exciting and expensive summer transfer window, the Hammers sit 12th in the Premier League thanks to a wonderful performance in their last game where they blew away newly promoted side Ipswich Town 4-1 at the London Stadium.

Although Julen Lopetegui’s men have only managed two wins so far, Pearce believes the club has put him in a strong position to push the club up the table after giving him the ‘strongest’ team the club has ever fielded.

Pearce said on talkSPORT: “The business they did in the summer was very good.

“Some of the signings are supplementing what they already have in [Mohammed] Kudus, [Lucas] Paqueta, [Jarrod] Bowen, etc. It’s a really good squad of players.”

He continued: “You could say this is the strongest group of players, on paper, the club have ever had. I’m sure West Ham fans will disagree with me.”

The strength of West Ham this season

The start of the 24/25 season has not been what fans expected so far. Despite demolishing Ipswich, they have only managed one more win this season and were subject to big defeats at the hands of Manchester City and London rivals Chelsea.

However, when you look at the team they have at their disposal, there is still a chance the Hammers can turn things around and push for another European finish this season.

In the summer the east London team spent around £120m, bringing in the likes of Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Guido Rodriguez.

They join the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus who have become very exciting Premier League players and have been linked to some of the biggest clubs in world football over the last year.

The Hammers have had strong teams in the past, including the Europa Conference League-winning side in 22/23 and the 98/99 side which boasted incredible talents like Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, and Paolo Di Canio, who all went on to become Premier League legends.

However, this current crop of players has bags of potential and will demand huge transfer fees if sold, which can be used to improve the squad further. Fans may disagree with Pearce, but there is no doubt something special is developing in east London.
