According to The Times, West Ham United are eyeing up a move for Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer.

West Ham have already completed deals for Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham, but they are far from finished building their squad for the next chapter at the London Stadium.

New manager Julen Lopetegui will be gearing up for pre-season as players return from their holidays next week, he will no doubt be keen to get started in identifying which roles need to be addressed as a priority.

Refreshment and redevelopment of the squad in East London will require finding players who can work with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss’ tactical profile and philosophy.

It has been reported by The Times this week that the Hammers are considering a move for Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a player who could be available at a cut price due to surplus requirements at Old Trafford.

As per the report, Man United could look to offload some of their fringe assets this summer to boost budgets for reinvestment and with Diego Dalot stealing the first choice spot in the right-back position, Wan-Bissaka could be the one to go if it is financially viable.

Should West Ham sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka?

While the Irons possess a lot of individual brilliance and exciting long-term prospects, they have certain roles that are a priority to address and one of the areas of improvement is the defensive set-up.

Vladimir Coufal will turn 32 a few weeks into the next Premier League season, so finding a right-back that can not only replace the Czech Republic international, but also strengthen and improve the defence would be massively advantageous.

Over 22 Premier League appearances, the 27-year-old titan – who has a reported bargain price tag of £13m – registered two assists and successfully completed 65% of his dribbles, as well as averaging 4.3 ball recoveries, 2.5 clearances, 57.8 touches and four duels won in total per game, as per SofaScore.

The Red Devils right-back has often been praised for his one-on-one defending by his peers with Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison singing Wan-Bissaka’s praises in a tweet last year:

“AWB is ridiculously good at 1 v 1 defending. Probably the best in the world bar none. So many wingers run out of ideas when playing directly against him.”

With that being said, if the Hammers could pull off a cut price deal for Wan-Bissaka it would be a fantastic piece of business and will add crucial depth to the defensive personnel ahead of next season.
