West Ham are reportedly interested in signing highly-rated Sunderland attacker Jack Clarke once the summer transfer window arrives.

The Hammers are sticking with David Moyes for the time being, despite the Scot being under pressure after a poor run of results, but it remains to be seen if he will still be in charge in the summer.

Should he still be in the London Stadium hot seat at that point, he will no doubt be keen on bringing in new signings come the end of the season, in order to build his squad.

According to Football Insider, West Ham are keen on acquiring the services of Sunderland ace Clarke, who is a wanted man currently among a number of English clubs:

“West Ham United are keeping close tabs on Sunderland star Jack Clarke, sources have told Football Insider. It is believed that the forward is also on the radar of Crystal Palace and Southampton after his exceptional campaign in the Championship this season.

“Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that the Saints will only make a move for Clarke if they earn promotion back to the Premier League, but the Hammers are monitoring his situation at the Stadium of Light closely. Sunderland will demand a fee of around £20million to sell the 23-year-old after rejecting a £15million bid from David Moyes’ side in the January transfer window.”

Clarke may be playing in the Championship currently, meaning some West Ham fans could turn their noses up at the idea of signing him, but he could be a superb signing this summer.

The 23-year-old has arguably been the Black Cats’ best player this season, scoring 15 goals in 33 appearances, with four assists also coming his way.

Clarke’s overall tally for Sunderland stands at 27 goals and 22 assists in 105 matches, and given his age, there is no reason why he can’t find another level in the coming years.

Primarily a left-sided attacking player, the Englishman could come in as a replacement for Said Benrahma in that position, although it clearly isn’t going to be easy to get their man, given the level of interest in him.
