West Ham are among the clubs interested in signing PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman, according to an update from journalist Rik Elfrink.

The Hammers are still potentially looking to bring in new faces during the January transfer window, in order to aid their European push this season.

It looks as though Veerman has emerged as a target, with Elfrink telling the Done Deal podcast [via West Ham Zone] that the PSV ace is keen on leaving the club, and West Ham keen on snapping him up:

“He is also becoming increasingly noticeable because of his defensive statistics. That makes him interesting for a number of English clubs. I understand that clubs such as West Ham United and Brighton are in the front row.

“I know that PSV are working on [a contract offer] and that things are not going so smoothly. That is just an ongoing process. It’s a bit of a paper discussion (money), because everyone knows that Veerman wants to make a move next summer.

“That’s fine and also part of the phase of his career. He is one of the very best football players in the Eredivisie. He can make it a little easier for by taking that step of not renewing.”

Veerman could be an excellent signing by West Ham this month, giving David Moyes the added depth and quality that he needs in his squad, having already built such a strong group of players.

This season, the Dutchman has an eye-catching tally of nine assists in 17 Eredivisie appearances, also scoring three goals in that time, and he has five outings in the Champions League. The fact that he has averaged 2.5 tackles per game in the league in 2023/24 to date shows that a strong player he is in a defensive sense, too.

Veerman has six caps to his name for the Netherlands, while an overall Eredivisie tally of 70 goal contributions (25 goals and 45 assists) in 136 appearances further outlines the end product that he could bring to West Ham’s midfield.

Lucas Paqueta’s calf injury has acted as a huge blow to the Hammers, with the Brazilian expected to be missing for the next few months, and the 25-year-old could help fill the void left by him.
