Loads of West Ham fans on Twitter don’t want Declan Rice to be appointed captain at the end of the season for various different reasons.
These include respect for Mark Noble, the Academy product’s age, Angelo Ogbonna and the fact that Rice might not be here in a year or two.
This came after one Twitter account claimed that the 21-year-old needs to be made skipper this May.
It’s surprising that so many of us are adverse to the idea of Rice as captain in the near future, given the decline of Noble recently, the youngster’s leadership skills and his undeniable quality.
The England man didn’t look out of place when he had the armband against Leicester over the festive period and has in recent days commented on his desire to hold the position one day.
Below is a list of the best tweets arguing against Central’s statement, though…
He will probably be vice captain for when noble doesn’t play, u don’t just take the captaincy off noble that would never happen

Way too soon

Love Rice, but Nobes keeps the armband until he retires. And let’s face it, if Rice & Souchek are fit he’ll play less & Dec will get to wear than band more often.

No don’t be stupid. Why appoint someone who will not be here in 3yrs. ⚒

Far too young for it … and he will be sold in summer. Cressy is better bet ….

No. Vice captain maybe. That way if Noble really isn’t good enough to play as people think, Rice will be captain on the pitch. But Noble should remain as club captain as long as he’s part of the squad.
