Michail Antonio’s contract is fast running down and many fellow West Ham fans on Twitter have been debating whether he should be given a new one.
This was after the question of whether he should be awarded one before his current deal expires next summer was raised by Football.London’s West Ham man Sam Inkersole.
Obviously, we all love the commitment that Antonio shows for the badge on the pitch, never seeming to give up on chasing a loose end and terrorising the opposition defences in the process with his electric pace.
However, for someone who’s played mostly as a centre-forward this season, two goals in 17 appearances simply isn’t good enough and the flaws with his finishing have been clear for all to see recently.
I think the best way forward is to make sure Antonio stays at the club but maybe as a winger or impact substitute, meanwhile signing a better finisher this summer…
Don’t really understand why people have said yes, he’s only played 15 time this year, his style of play is so reliant on pace, he’s getting older, High wages & his Hamstring injuries are recurrent & detrimental to his game!
I’d look to cash in & sign Daka & Karlan Grant— Steven McCarthy (@StevenMcCarthy9) March 23, 2020
No harm in offering a one year deal

Can’t rely on him but will make a great impact sub. Better partner is needed for Haller, got rinsed when I said this before. His technical ability is awful

For those that say yes, why? He’s over 30 and more and more injury prone. He’s a handful, but technically lacking. If we could get 20+m in the “summer” I’d sell him.

Exactly the reasons I voted no. His hamstrings aren’t going to get any better.

Won’t get £20m with his contract running down, would give him a new deal to hold the value a bit more then try and shift

Shouldn’t let any asset run down a contract.

Everything good we do is through Antonio. Never been technically the best but has dragged us through since he’s joined (other than the season before last)
