John Moncur has had his say on the current predicament in which we find ourselves in the Premier League, believing that we will survive this season.

What did he say?

When speaking exclusively the We Are West Ham Podcast, Moncur was asked if he thought we would beat the drop and had the following to say in response…

“Yeah, I think so, what worried me before was that Antonio wasn’t playing, he was injured. And before Bowen came, I didn’t feel we had any pace at all to stretch defenders.

“It’s more optimistic, looking at the teams around us, I do think we’re better than the likes of Norwich and Bournemouth and Brighton.

“As you go and look at what’s around, we’re better than them.”

Bold statement

It’s hard to ignore the bold nature of this statement as we are a long way from safety – and it’s difficult to predict we will be safe based on what we’ve seen in 2019/2020 thus far.

It’s all well and good stating that we’re better than Brighton and Bournemouth, but one is above us in the table and the other is level on points with us.

We’ve still got to play three of the “Big Six” (and Wolves) and are currently only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Yes, the likes of Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen can cause a threat to opposition defences, but unless we can pick up quick points, things do look bleak.
