Club legend John Moncur has been waxing lyrical about Jarrod Bowen as he continues to impress since getting his break in the team.

What has he said?

Whilst appearing on the We Are West Ham Podcast this week, Moncur was asked about what he thought of the prolific starlet and said this:

“I’ve seen a lot of the boy, watching him quite a lot in the Championship and he’s a very direct, good player.

“His goal record at that level is superb and can he step up? I think he can.

“I think that he makes some great runs from deep and we’ve seen that in a couple of games. The game he came on at Liverpool, a fantastic run and he got in and he was really unlucky – the week after he did the same thing and chipped the ‘keeper.

“He’s got composure as well in front of goal, he’s a left-footed player, playing off the right is his best position I believe.

“But he’s tidy on the ball, he gets his head up, he gives us that option to stretch the defenders and he can finish.”

Spot on

Moncur’s Bowen comments are spot on as he’s shown promise that he can deliver at Premier League level since joining us from Hull.

We saw last Saturday, when he almost shocked the Emirates from range in the first couple of minutes, that he loves a good go at goal and can be accurate with his efforts as well.

The 23-year-old has been the most effective throughout his career on the right-wing, able to cut in and use that wand of a left foot that he possesses.

And the importance of his runs from midfield have been clear thus far in his West Ham career as well as his tidiness on the ball.

Hopefully, he can keep it up and help us survive.
