Still at Marseille and playing against Saint-Etienne, he picked up the ball on the left side and ghosted into the penalty area, twisting and turning in typical fashion before spotting a gap between the goalkeeper and his near post and squeezing a stunning finish between it from a ridiculous angle.
To think, he could still be doing that for us now and rumour last month just served to tease us about that possibility.
Payet is 32 now and whilst we don’t know whether he’d still be Premier League quality – he might not have needed to be – he’s still tearing it up in the French league, with just the 15 goal contributions in 22 appearances in all competitions this season.
