Last Sunday wasn’t world appreciation day, but that didn’t stop on Twitter from randomly celebrating McMessi himself.

His league tally of nine-goal contributions this season, more than any other West Ham player, is made all the more impressive by the fact that it’s come from just 20 matches.

The 28-cap international’s been a shining light in a very dark tunnel and head and shoulders above the rest, most certainly in the attacking department – the stats speak for themselves really.

Some supporters called for him to be named Hammer of the Year, whilst one boldly suggested that he’s the best player at the club and a second praised his infectious passion for the shirt.
