Many West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to praise the club’s first January signing after it was announced on Wednesday morning.

Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Darren Randolph has rejoined from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract.

With Lukasz Fabianski due to be out until the end of the month and Roberto and David Martin both mistake-prone, the joy at getting another shot-stopper through the door is understandable.

However, Randolph himself is carrying an injury and it’s kept him out since November, plus he was deemed to be not good enough for the club just two-and-a-half years ago.

On the other hand, the 32-year-old has impressed since moving back down to the second tier, earning a place in the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Year for 2019 and also picking up the most recent Boro Player of the Year award.
