Goncalo Cardoso’s performance for the U23s at Reading in the Premier League 2 Division 2 last Monday has certainly proved controversial.
A selection of fans on Twitter are completely split on the 19-year-old centre-back after he scored and assisted but his team also conceded three times in a draw that saw their lead at the top of the league cut to two points by Manchester United.
Some questioned a claim that Cardoso had played well in Berkshire because of the three goals his defence conceded, with others calling for the Portuguese to be given his first-team debut and one even suggesting that he should be paired with Issa Diop if the club is to go forward.
The former Boavista man has been something of a forgotten figure since he arrived in the summer, yet to feature at senior level and only having made two first-team matchday squads so far.
