West Ham United fans have been calling for Angelo Ogbonna to be named Hammer of the Year for the 2019/2020 season on Twitter.

This came after the club Tweeted in appreciation of the 31-year-old following his role in another clean sheet at Gillingham in the Emirates FA Cup last weekend.

Ogbonna may now be in the twilight of his career but has earned plaudits from many supporters in recent times for his strong performances, barring a bizarre bust-up with Mark Noble at Crystal Palace over his defensive efforts.

The Italian’s form has seen him preferred to both Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena at times this campaign, despite some believing that the latter two would be the set centre-back partnership at London Stadium for years to come.

The stats don’t lie about Ogbonna’s contribution this term either as he’s only missed four starting Xls in the Premier League and his teammates haven’t kept a league clean sheet without him.
