Reliable West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee reported on his personal Twitter account on Sunday that the club are looking to bring former goalkeeper Darren Randolph back to east London. The Republic of Ireland international isn’t the only ‘keeper being looked at by the Hammers, with Stoke City ‘stopper Jack Butland and Bournemouth colossus Asmir Begovic also being considered. Presumably these are all players who would be brought in to serve as back-up to current number one Lukasz Fabianski once he is back to full fitness. However, whether somebody like Butland, in particular, would be happy with that role remains to be seen. Even still, as plenty of supporters have pointed out, should this really be where the club are looking to strengthen in January with Fabianski on the verge of returning? Surely central midfield, the full backs positions and up front are bigger areas of need. Also, the fact that a Championship goalie like Randolph may cost more than the Irons want to spend has set the fans raging. Once again the board’s lack of ambition has shone through.
